Multi fuel stoves are becoming more and more popular as they do a lot of things that an ordinary stove simply does not. Included in these things is the fact that they burn a variety of fuels and that they can save you a whole lot of money every single year. Another thing that is great about multi fuel stoves is that they are able to reduce your carbon footprint extremely easily as you will be burning fuels that are not as heavy on the atmosphere.
If you don’t know that much about your multi fuel stove and have simply been using it to burn things such as coal and oil and possibly even using electricity for it, you might think that you are already reducing your carbon footprint. However, this is not really the case as electricity is one of the most inefficient ways to fuel you multi fuel stove as it has the highest carbon footprint out of almost everything. In fact, even using house coal or oil has a lower carbon footprint than the use of electricity.
Now, the easiest mix for a multi fuel stove is of course wood and coal only the thing is that they are still relatively harmful to the environment. If you are really looking to reduce tour carbon footprint with your stove as much as you possibly can then we would recommend that you use only wood products.
Wood products are the most environmentally friendly products for burning in your wood stove and the good news is that they are readily available and available for good prices. Burning things like wood chips and wood logs will drastically reduce your carbon footprint as they have only a tiny percentage of the impact that things like coal and electricity do on the environment. Perhaps one of the best things that you can burn on your multi fuel stove is those big sawdust blocks that are compacted in to dense cubes. These will burn for hours on end and they will have hardly any effect on the environment at all.
Now, burning wood over coal can be more expensive so if you are a little strapped for cash but still want to do your bit for the environment, we recommend that you burn half wood products and half coal. If you make sure your coal is local, you will reduce your carbon footprint slightly too.
